'Vignettes' is a captivating exploration of Lane's sonic landscape. The album features work created using a minimal studio setup, with a focus on piano and strings. Musically, there are two distinct aspects to the album. Roughly half the tracks revolve around the piano, while the other half are string quartet-based, showcasing Lane's ability to compose using counterpoint and the techniques of stretto fuga. The interplay between the piano and strings creates a dynamic journey for the listener and this is enhanced by the fact that the instruments vary between real and virtual.

True to its name, 'Vignettes' unfolds like a series of evocative snapshots. 'Vignette: a brief evocative description, account, or episode' - The dictionary definition pretty much describes the conceptual approach for this album. It gathers together a collection of musical vignettes, each track telling a story or setting a mood in a concise period, inspired by haiku poems; the pieces capture fleeting moments of emotional depth. The work is complete with Adrian’s own photomontage artwork.
